When it comes to selecting a custom drapery option for one of your home interiors, the drapery track selection you make is almost as important as selecting the drapery material itself.
Curtains and drapes are hung up on a track that allows them to be opened or closed across your windows. There are many different options to choose from when it comes to selecting tracks for window fixtures. The following are the four most important considerations in choosing the right solution:
Material
Usually, tracks are made from one of the following three materials: PVC, steel, or aluminum. PVC is generally the least expensive and most versatile option, but it is not quite as durable as steel or aluminum.
When it is necessary to create bends in the track due to the form of the window, aluminum is the best option because it is a flexible material.
Corded or uncorded tracks
It's possible to open or close window drapery by simply pulling on a cord if you opt for corded window treatment tracks. A corded drape is best if drapery is made of fragile material that is handled as little as possible.
Corded drapes are typically necessary if the top of a window is located very high up on a wall, making it difficult to open or close the drapes manually from down on the floor.
The window's dimensions
While it's typically easy to find appropriate drapery designs for a rectangular window of standard dimensions, some windows are irregularly shaped like ovals or circles.
Curtains and drapes can be hung on tracks that are located in either inside recesses or outside recesses of the window. An inside recess means that the track must be shorter than the actual window width. On the other hand, a track hung up on an outside recess usually extends slightly beyond the width of the window.
Track fittings
Curtain and drapery tracks can be hung from different parts of a wall or window. They can also be hung using brackets that are fixed into the wall or ceiling.
When tracks are hung from the wall itself, they are usually attached to wooden batten or brickwork along the window. A track hung via a wall fixing will be attached up above the window using fasteners like screws or rawlplugs. If a ceiling fixing is used to hang drapery, tracks are instead attached at the joist of the ceiling or on wooden battens if the positioning of the joists prevents this setup.
